Have you ever heard about the job of actuary? This is a little-known job in the Insurance business sector. Yet it has a key role! To put it simply, an actuary creates insurance contracts – namely life insurance, life and health insurance, property and casualty insurance, among many others. As an actuary, your daily routine will be to carry out statistical, economic, or financial studies to create insurance contracts. You will also need to be an expert in Mathematics for this job as you will carry out statistics and probabilities – in order to identify, model, and manage financial risk.

As an actuary, you may work in several different business sectors. You will mainly work in Insurance and be specialized – foresight, savings, retirement, and so on. You will also work in the Finance business sector for banks, actuarial or consulting firms, the State – the Ministry of Health, for instance – or even stock exchange companies. Audit firms like EY, Deloitte, Grant Thornton, but also insurance companies like Bâloise Assurances Luxembourg or Axa Luxembourg are among the greatest Luxembourg’s employers for this occupation.

If you want to work as an actuary in Luxembourg, you will need to have a Master’s degree. If you have an HND or equivalent, you can apply for the job of actuarial technician. As a Junior, the average salary in Luxembourg would be around €2,900.00 gross per month. However, this salary can quickly increase after professional experience. If you have a strong knowledge of Finance techniques, Mathematics and IT concepts, you can develop your career and become a Risk Manager or Data Scientist.
